Deputy PM: No oligarchs in Russia, only responsible businessmen

MOSCOW, Jan 25 (PRIME) -- Russia has no oligarchs, only socially responsible businessmen, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said in an interview to Bloomberg TV broadcast late on Wednesday.

“First, we don’t have oligarchs, it was a concept of the 1990s. Now, we have good working businessmen, socially responsible (businessmen) who care about the country and who earn money by doing responsible business,” he said when asked about the sentiment amount Russian oligarchs due to possible new U.S. sanctions that may target them.

“Sanctions…it makes life more difficult, but it does not make life impossible,” he added.

In August 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a bill introducing additional sanctions against Russia, which envisaged that the Congress was to meet within 180 days to discuss restrictions against the country’s sovereign debt. The decision is expected to be released on January 29.
